We've been in Vietnam's "most delightful town" for the last few days and really, there is no other way to describe it. I'd heard a lot about Hoi An, about the lanterns and the tailors and the great food, about the beaches and the river and the beautiful bridge and the way everyone cycles around the town. It's very beautiful, and VERY romantic, Kirst and I are now more in love than EVER.
We browsed through the markets...
We hired some bicyles and cycled past the rice fields on the way to the beach... we cycled, and we cycled, aaaand we cycled. Really, you would think that there would be at least ONE advantage to having a, um, soft bum, but nooo the seat was rock hard and I had a pretty sore bum at the end of the day, soft bum completely redundant and now MOST unwelcome.
We wandered around at night, the whole town was lit up with the most beautiful lanterns lining the streets and in the trees, this cute little boy was selling these paper lanterns to put into the river and make a wish (majour tourist trap but quite lovely either way)
The streets are lined with tailors that you can sit down with, design a dress, and collect it in a day or two, for absolutely nothing, and the dresses and fabric are exquisite. They also handmake the most beautiful leather shoes and pants.
It's a really lovely place and one that I will definitely be visiting again. We're at the airport waiting for our flight to Halong Bay where we're doing a two day boat tour, then it's back to Bangkok and straight off to The Philippines.
