cake sabotage

It's a real thing. I told you about the chocolate cake I made yesterday right? Well, I filled the middle with raspberries and chocolate mouse and I set it aside to glaze the top with chocolate ganache and decorate it with beautiful dusty-pink roses and the delicate chocolate leaves I had made. I put all the ingredients I needed to one side, well, I came upstairs after doing the cabins, and our ever-helpful captain had decided that HE would just go ahead and do the ganache FOR me, because, he claimed, he was "really good at it", except, well, he made a runny hot chocolate sauce, into which he added my lovely chocolate leaves, which he then poured over the top LIKE A FIVE YEAR OLD on baker-baker day at pre-primary school. He claims I overreacted but I walked into the kitchen and said, rather dramatically, with my hands on my head... "what have you DONE!?", and then I felt horrible cause he looked so hurt. "Sorry, I just thought I'd help you out". "Well, that's really nice, but that's not what I had in mind, and now I can't decorate I like I wanted to with the roses, and the sauce is dripping all over the nice plate and it looks like a bit of a dog's breakfast". And then he tried his best to fix it and to reassure me that he thought it looked really good and he offered to hang the laundry up, and then I felt even worse.

Okay, so I forgave him for that, and then.... as I was plating the cake, 'cause it wasn't in any state to be presented as it was, I went to the laundry to fetch some napkins and he decided to "decorate" the plate for me, ie dribble chocolate sauce all over it, AND the rose I had put on the side, so it looked like a five year old had been at it again. It looked like a crappy piece of chocolate mud cake you would order at spur on your 10th birthday. Not quite the elegant rose covered chocolate cake I had mind... and he genuinely didn't understand why I was so annoyed, he thought he had done such a good job, it was almost quite endearing. Oh boy... men, they're so silly
