When I was sitting in Covent Gardens in London the other weekend there was a guy doing one of the most epic street performances I've ever seen, he had hundreds of people watching, he had everyone laughing and participating, it was amazing, and at the end of it he was saying thank you to the audience and to the people who participated and then he said "because at the end of the day, you guys, life is about getting involved". Simple enough, but those words really had quite an impact on me. Just after he said it, I thought; that really is what life is about. The year before last, let's just say I was pretty UNinvolved in my own life, or anyone else's, it was horrible, I was horrible, I let myself sit on the sidelines and I was a spectator, BUT I realised the errors of my awful ways and decided to get myself the hell involved, in everything, and every day, I try to be more involved, to do more and see more and experience as much as possible. I'm not one of those rah-rah people, quite the opposite, I've always been a bit of a cynical bastard, maybe I've changed, but seriously, when you see yourself creeping to the sidelines of your own life, when you're the shy, self-loathing water-boy on the bleachers at game You vs The World, you need to put those god damn pom-poms on, wear the skirt, sing the songs, do the splits, and simultaneously be the quarterback, score the goal (or the point or the try or the touchdown thing or whatever it's called, ?) and get involved because you cannot... absolutley CAN not rely on anybody else to do it for you. Hot damn. The end. Amen. Go forth and spread the good word.
